A taste of Sicily: Fennel and Orange Salad

Welcome back to my little corner of the internet!

In the past weeks, I have developed a liking for this simple, yet delicious, salad. I’m talking about a Sicilian winter salad with fennel, oranges and red onions. To be honest, I have not really liked fennel for my whole life, but as I am trying to buy more seasonal ingredients, I bumped into this vegetable and realised it is actually quite tasty. Mostly, I like its crunchiness.

So here goes the recipe.

1 Fennel

1 Red onion

2 Oranges

Extra virgin olive oil

Start by washing the fennel. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Also slice the fennel. Peel the oranges and slice them, too.

In a bowl, mix the ingredients. Season with salt and pepper and add a generous gulp of olive oil.

Serve as a salad, a starter or as a condiment with meat or fish. As a starter, it is highly appreciated, because it is said it triggers your taste buds and prepares the stomach for the coming dishes.

Have you ever tried this type of salad? What about oranges in your salad? Let me know in the comments below.
